Families shape who we are and what we will become – it is where we create our list of “normals.” Think about it: how we talk, connect with others, create habits, establish customs and rituals, and learn to view and experience the world around us starts with our families.
This is challenged even further when we have families that include individuals with awesome brains that are wired a little differently. With 20+ years working with AND living in a family like this, here are some areas where I could offer caregiver support:
Support Your Own Well-Being
Process stress, grief, guilt, or overwhelm
Reduce parental burnout
Build self-compassion and emotional resilience
Develop and maintain healthy boundaries
Improve Connection & Family Relationships
Strengthen the parent–child relationship
Align parenting approaches between caregivers
Affirming Approach
Focus on strengths, interests, and abilities
View behavior as communication rather than a problem
Support growth without trying to change who your child is
